Time Out says

The New Catalan Ensemble (NewCat) is a group formed with the aim of incorporating the sound of traditional Catalan musical instruments into other musical areas and thus reflecting the concern that composers and performers have developed over recent decades. The NewCat is, above all, an artistic point of confluence between musicians who are versatile and stylistically complementary: pop music, improvisation, effects, the sound of traditional Catalan instruments and song are the leitmotif of this new group. The NewCat teams up with singer and multi instrumentalist Andrea Motis as well as saxophonist and promoter of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, Joan Chamorro, with the aim of making a repertoire that pivots on the making music from texts of important Catalan poets and adapting some well-known standards that, because their unique instrumentation, take on a new life. The NewCat is the brainchild of musician Joan Diaz, and produced by Rut Martínez.
