And what better place to showcase Catalan culture to visitors from around the world than Barcelona’s La Rambla? That is the idea behind 700 Milles, a new restaurant located near the Columbus Monument, combining Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine and already boasting a 5-star rating on Google.
Open every day, including weekends, 700 Milles offers an extensive menu, as well as tapas and breakfast. It also features an excellent €18 weekday lunch menu, a good selection of wines and a terrace right on La Rambla. The venue itself is exquisite: its renovation, which preserves original features, pays tribute to Barcelona’s maritime past. Warm, elegant and peaceful, it is a true oasis amid the bustle of one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
700 Milles also has an ace up its sleeve. Hidden behind the restaurant is an intimate venue with just 50 seats, with small tables where guests can enjoy tapas and cocktails right next to the stage. On Thursdays, some of the finest musicians from Barcelona’s jazz, blues and boogie scene take to the stage. The venue can also be hired for celebrations, group dinners, private events or small-scale live music performances.
But 700 Milles’ musical programme has a distinctly Catalan flavour. On September 25 at 8 p.m., following five sold-out editions, the venue will once again host "Benvinguts", a concert in which artist Laia Indika moves audiences with her live performance and her interpretations of iconic songs from the Catalan singer-songwriter tradition, accompanied by spectacular audiovisual clips inspired by the songs she performs. The show is in Catalan, but both the song lyrics and the presentation can be followed on a mobile phone via a QR code provided at the venue. Concert tickets cost €15 and can be complemented with a tapas menu served in the concert venue itself (€35), or with a memorable dinner at the restaurant before or after the concert (€60).
An unmissable plan for this year’s La Mercè festivities, although it is also ideal for any occasion when you want to enjoy excellent food and great local music.
