Picnic took over this modest space in 2010 and gave it a rigorous makeover – while the exterior is still rather unlovely, inside it’s a welcoming space, with country-kitchen bar stools, dramatic flower arrangements and lounge music. The food is influenced by the US deep south and beyond, with corn chowder, fried green tomatoes and some tasty little crab cakes with fennel salad and crème fraîche, all served in half-portions. If you come at the weekend, there’s an excellent brunch: get there early for any chance of a table.
