Hotel Rooftop Terrace Week has become one of the most anticipated events on the Barcelona calendar. It's now in its eighth year, and boasts 83 participating hotels that open their rooftop terraces to the public and offer more than 270 activities, and they're all free. When you stop by the hotels from June 1 to 10 you'll find workshops, tastings, concerts, classes, DJ sets, theme parties, sports, kids' activities, cooking demonstrations, video projections – and don't forget the synchronised swimming show at Ohla Barcelona, which has already become a tradition, brought to you by the championship team of España Júnior CN Kallipolis.

Barcelona Hotel Rooftop Terrace Week has a charitable side as well. Share your photos of any of the activities on our social media platforms with the hashtag #SetmanaTerrasses18. If they get more than 1,000 tagged photos, the organisation will donate €1,000 to Business With Social Value.

Here's a sampling of some of our favourite events throughout the week (bonus: it's actually ten days). See the full list of participating hotels and events (in Catalan).

Cocktail-making class

Do you dream of creating the perfect cocktail but are afraid to try mixing anything other than rum and Coke? Juan Torres uses the spirits from the Bodegas Familia Torres – gin, pisco and brandy – and makes magic. Pay close attention and take notes, as it's not only about throwing the bottle around behind the bar.

Fri 1st. 6pm. Free with reservation: 93 342 78 50

Synchronized swimming

The star of the rooftop terrace at the Ohla hotel is its glass swimming pool, where for the past few years during Hotel Rooftop Terrace Week we've been able to see an incredible synchronized swimming show starring the championship Junior Spain team of the Kallipolis Synchronized Swimming Club, trained by Anna Tarrés. It's your chance to see up close everything that happens under the water.

Fri 8th. 6.30pm & 8.30pm. Free. Space is limited.

El Palace offers a €39 tasting menu with Iberian ham and 'pa amb tomàquet' (bread with tomato), nachos, ceviche, patatas bravas, signature croquettes and pulled pork with veg.

Film cycle

The name of the hotel might give you a hint as to which famous movie star the Vincci Mae dedicates its rooftop film cycle. And if not, then maybe you guessed it from the photo. That's right, it's a Mae West mini film fest, with three sessions to delight in the beauty, strength and irreverence of the American actress who had her heyday in the 1930s and 1940s though her career spanned seven decades.

Fri 1st, Wed 6th & Fri 8th. 9.30pm. Free with reservation: 93 707 61 77
