Mercè 2013: 'Bastoner' morning parade

This type of dance that incorporates bamboo sticks or canes is believed to have come out of the agricultural rites of the Celtiberian peoples or the Greco-Roman culture. Today there are groups of bastoners all throughout Catalonia and, of course, also round Barcelona. Now's your chance to see them dance in Plaça de Sant Jaume followed by a parade to Plaça Reial.
