More than 2,200 string, keyboard, wind and percussion instruments dating to the 1500s are crammed into the small Musical Instrument Museum next to the Philharmonie. Among them are rococo musical clocks, for which 18th-century princes commissioned jingles from Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. Museum guides play obsolete instruments such as the Kammerflugel; on Saturdays at 11am, the wonderful Wurlitzer organ - salvaged from an American silent movie house - is cranked into action.
