The Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection, currently on a ten-year loan to the city, occupies the building used by the Egyptian Museum before it moved back to Museumsinsel (the Kalabscha Gate and the columns of the Temple of Sahure remain pending their removal to the Pergamon). Presented as an exhibition called 'Surreal Worlds', it concerns the history of Surrealism and its forerunners, traced through artists such as Piranesi, Goya, Dalí, Magritte and Ernst.
