American soul music icon Mavis Staples is coming to Brisbane in 2020. Staples is a once-in-a-generation artist, a two-time Grammy winner, both a Blues Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, a civil rights activist, and a genre-crossing soul/gospel/R'n'B pioneer.
The Brisbane show on Wednesday March 4 will be the only Queensland stop on her 2020 tour presented by Bluesfest Touring, which also sees her performing at Womadelaide, Perth Festival and headlining Sydney and Melbourne’s Twilight zoo concert events.
Backed by her longtime touring band, Staples will be singing songs from her spectacular twelfth studio album We Get By, her first full-length collaboration with multi-Grammy Award-winner Ben Harper. Staples will also deliver roof-raising performances of hits from throughout her expansive career. So yes, you'll most likely hear a joyous rendition of The Staple Singers' classic 'I'll Take You There'.
Staples' impact on music and culture would be difficult to overstate, don't sleep on tickets to see this living legend perform live.
