Chiang Mai is having a yoghurt moment

Across Chiang Mai, yoghurt is quickly replacing sugary bubble tea and Thai tea. Cafés and mall kiosks are blending thick yogurt smoothies, piling bowls with fresh fruit and granola and turning this probiotic staple into the city’s latest café craze.

As more people cut back on sugar, yoghurt lands middle ground – sweet enough for dessert but still light enough to feel healthy. In true Chiang Mai fashion, cafés aren’t doing it halfway. Expect creamy bowls, tangy smoothies and fruit-loaded yoghurt treats that cool you down without the guilt.

From drinkable smoothies to thick Greek-style bowls loaded with toppings, these Chiang Mai spots prove healthy treats can still feel indulgent.

What is it?

If you think frozen yoghurt is just a sad substitute for ice cream, Rob’s Berry will prove you wrong. This spot leans fully into the healthy but still hits the sweet spot category, serving no-added-sugar froyo made through a slow process – each batch takes around three days to develop its smooth texture and balanced tang.

Why we love it

Expect more than just froyo cups. The menu is surprisingly stacked, with yogurt smoothies, bowls and indulgent-leaning flavours like Biscoff and rice barley that somehow still stay on the wholesome side. Keep it simple or pile on toppings depending on your mood.

Time Out tip

Don’t miss the acai bowl with honeycomb and crunchy granola mix – perfect after a sweaty Chiang Mai afternoon.

6 Soi 7 Sirimungkalajarn Road. Open 9am-6pm

2. Mr. Jolly

What is it?

A drinkable yogurt spot that focuses on smooth, probiotic-style yogurt drinks blended fresh to order, with a big emphasis on fresh seasonal fruit. Even the ‘0 percent sugar’ option tastes surprisingly good.

Why we love it

The menu leans heavily into fresh ingredients, so everything feels clean and naturally sweet rather than overly sugary. Blends like strawberry and avocado feel refreshing rather than heavy – exactly what you want when the Chiang Mai heat kicks in. Seasonal highlights also keep things interesting, so even if you come back often, there’s usually something new to try.

Time Out tip

Try the Pippo yogurt for a nostalgic hit. Anyone who grew up with those jelly cups will recognise the fruity sweetness right away – blended with yoghurt for balance, naturally.

Multiple locations, including Chiang Mai Ram Hospital and Central Chiang Mai. Open 8.30am-6pm

Why we love it

It’s all about flexibility here. You can build your own cup with everything from fresh fruit to crunchy toppings and sauces, going as light or as indulgent as you want. The yoghurt itself stays smooth and not overly tangy, making it an easy crowd-pleaser.

Time Out tip

Go half fruit, half crunch – fresh berries for balance, granola or biscuit crumbs for texture.

4. Yoguruto

What is it?

Yoguruto is the ultimate spot for drinkable Japanese-style yoghurt that’s never boring. You can customise sweetness across six levels, from zero sugar to fully sweet. There are also 18 mix-ins to choose from., from chewy vanilla sticky rice to playful honey konjac. Needless to say, every cup feels like a little edible adventure.

Why we love it

The drinks strike a perfect balance: creamy but not heavy, tangy but not overpowering. The flavours are also bright and soooo approachable – think fresh berries, vanilla bean or seasonal specials – and the toppings are thoughtfully chosen to complement, not clutter, the palate.

Time Out tip

Don’t miss the Midnight Sticky Rice Yogurt – yoghurt paired with vanilla sticky rice for a chewy, lightly sweet treat. And while you could go all out and pair it with lots of sweetness and a handful of toppings,, this one carries the magic all on its own.
