Even if Delhi’s galleries are thriving right now, art openings can sometimes mean wine you don't finish and wall text you don't read. Enter a furniture design brand that probably knows you can’t sell based on a curator’s note. Objectry's ‘Body of Evidence’ is going for a first weekend where the exhibiting artists are around to explain themselves, and they’re combining it with a DJ set, drinks, and coffee.
A bit ambitious, still, to make it a full weekend evening affair, but perhaps that’s expected from Objectry. Their flagship store opened on Delhi’s MG Road earlier this year after over some 10 years in the business of furniture design, with a sleekness that brings just enough of an interesting character to a largely minimalist brand look. Now, it seems they’re bringing that care to curating events.
Curated by Shreya Josh, Body of Evidence brings together 11 artists who work with a variety of materials, and this curation’s centred on the idea of preserving memory and the acts of care in doing so. Objectry hasn’t tried to oversell what you’re going to see.
The itinerary
Saturday, July 12, starts with a walkthrough led by the curator around 4pm, with several of the artists in tow to talk through the materials and thinking behind their own work. And later, because why the hell not, they’re closing out with a DJ set from Direct Drive, starting 5.30pm. Presumably for anyone who's done enough looking for one day.
The more sedentary half is Sunday, July 12: two panels, one with the painters, one with the sculptors. Dewar's and Sepoy are on drinks both days; there'll be freshly brewed coffee too, for the people pacing themselves.
The exhibition itself opens at noon on July 11, and will last till July 19.
