SURJ Denver says
Showing Up for Racial Justice SURJ - Denver and Boulder host a children, families, and beloved communities march towards the "other America."

5:30pm - We will kick off the event with fun and games, including face painting, hula hooping, and bubble blowing, for all to participate!

6:00pm - Our march down 16th Street Mall will begin. We plan to sing, dance, and invite others to join us as we stamp out hate and lift up community.
Please note, we will march for 1.5 miles round trip so plan accordingly (comfortable shoes, strollers, etc)

While Donald Trump and Ted Cruz visit Colorado, we will #resolve2resist hatred, bigotry, violence, racism, and anti-immigrant platforms that have real and negative effects on our communities. INVITE YOUR FRIENDS!!! CAN WE SHOW UP 1,000 STRONG?? JOIN US TO BUILDUP A NEW WORLD.

This event is intended to be ZERO escalation and will be family friendly. More details will be posted over the coming few days. PM us with questions.

ACCESSIBILITY NOTE: This will be a 1.5 mile loop. We will be using sidewalks with curb cuts and not using steps. There will be marshals and medics present. Chant leaders may be using megaphones or instruments. The area may be crowded, though logistical team will make every effort to allow clear and safe passage. If you have access concerns please PM us or email us at denverSURJ (at) gmail (dot) com. We want to make this event as accessible as possible for our community.

At this event, we'll show our community's real values (from www.showingupforracialjustice.org):
We live in a time of great hope and possibility, yet the potential for a just world for all of us is not possible when racism and oppression keep us divided. This can make us forget how closely connected we truly are. Racism is still present throughout all of our contemporary institutions and structures. Racism is devastating and is closely intertwined with all systems of oppression. It robs all of us - white people and people of color - of our humanity. We honor and learn from the long history of people of color and white people who have been unrelenting in their struggles for racial justice, and ending all systems of oppression. We are showing up to take our responsibility as white people to act collectively and publicly to challenge the manipulation of racist fear by the ruling class and corporate elite. We know that to transform this country we must be part of building a powerful multi-racial majority to challenge racism in all its forms [and all forms of targeting and oppression].
