Swallow Hill Music says
Scupanon began in 2010 when violinist Paul Ermisch began accompanying singer-songwriter Rob Roper at his acoustic gigs. In early 2013, Roper added percussionist Sam Caston on hand drums. At the end of 2013, they were still performing as "Rob Roper", but in early 2014, Roper decided that this trio deserved a band name, to honor Ermisch and Caston's contributions to the music. Scupanon was born.

Caston had to leave the band in 2015 and was replaced on percussion by Uriah Espinosa. Also in 2015, Paul Woods joined on upright bass. The band is now a 4-piece, with Paul Ermisch on violin and Rob Roper on acoustic guitar and lead vocals.
