The Regent

When people visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse or the Scottish Parliament they tend to head back up the Royal Mile afterwards for eats or drinks, unaware that there is a friendly, cask ale bar less than 10 minutes' walk along Abbeyhill and up Abbey Mount. The Regent also does comforting pub grub and it's only a few minutes' walk from Calton Hill too. If you want to sit quietly with a plate of macaroni cheese and a decent pint it's perfect; if you want to go out with a few friends in the evening in a relaxed environment, it also fits the bill. The pink union flag that flutters outside might tell you this is a gay venue but everyone is welcome at this very fine establishment.
