Ten new galleries are to open next summer at the National Museum of Scotland as part of a multi-million pound transformation of the Edinburgh landmark, and a collection of artist impressions have been released showcasing how the galleries will look.

Areas dedicated to science and technology, decorative art, design and fashion are to be unveiled in 2016, the 150th anniversary year of the opening of the Chambers Street building. Construction work has now been completed and the fit-out and installation of the new galleries is now underway. It’s the third stage of a £80m restoration of the Victorian building. (They're still not bringing back the sorely-missed fish pond though.)

Pieces to be be displayed in the new galleries will include six Wedgwood plates designed by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi (whose Tottenham Court Road mosaic is also Edinburgh-bound), an early camera created by Victorian photography pioneer William Henry Fox Talbot, and Dolly the sheep as part of an exhibition about the science of genetics.
