The best club events in Edinburgh this week

It’s a week not of exclusively ‘big’ parties, but of different flavours to keep you going all the way from Wednesday to Sunday, with Baton Rouge trap producer Suicideyear starting us off pretty much horizontal before Comeme’s Christian S kicks off the weekend early (what a pair of bookings they are for Sneaky Pete’s, by the way) and Musika returns with the mother of all birthday parties.

Witness with Suicideyear – Sneaky Pete’s, Wed Feb 11
It’s no surprise that this change-of-pace midweeker at Sneaky’s comes with the homegrown LuckyMe team in support, for the Scottish label collective are all over the kind of work that Baton Rouge-based producer James Prudhomme creates. Released on Daniel Lopatin’s (aka producer Oneohtrix Point Never) Software label, Suicideyear's debut album ‘Remembrance’ is a trap album like no other, a collection of woozy, synthetic smoker’s beats which chooses to finish off with an incongruous and unlikely My Bloody Valentine cover (‘When You Sleep’).

Juice with Christian S – Sneaky Pete’s, Thu Feb 12
Juice’s last special guest was Parris Mitchell, and they’re not cutting back any by putting Christian S in the spotlight this time round. A familiar face around the club scene of his home city Cologne for the last two decades – and a resident at Dusseldorf’s legendary Salon des Amateurs parties – his DJ career has exploded in recent years, even as his production skills have brought him into the orbit of Matias Aguayo’s Comeme crew. Expect bassy and exciting beats which blend flavours of techno, house and disco from the creator of ‘Jagos’ and ‘Pitch Rider’.

Nightvision presents Musika’s 8th Birthday Party with Green Velvet and Eats Everything – Liquid Room, Sat Feb 14
For the second week running, one of the component parts of Edinburgh’s largest clubbing brand Nightvision gets to party on its own. Last week bass night Xplicit hosted its 10th anniversary party, and this Saturday its Nightvision co-conspirator Musika celebrates arriving at another year older and (hopefully) wiser. And what a line-up they’re bringing with them to mark the day, with Chicagoan house and electro icon Green Velvet (aka Cajmere, pictured above) taking the headline slot and ubiquitous Bristolian DJ and producer Eats Everything in support.
