The top 10 things to do in Edinburgh this week

We've tried to strike a balance between high-visibility crowd pleasers and under-the-radar discoveries this week, with the Jason Manford-starring 'The Producers' and Frankie Boyle's work-in-progress shows standing side-by-side with Argentinian satirical cinema, underground techno and a feminist film-and-dance club. Obviously, we'd recommend you disregard their statuses and cram in as many as you can.

Dark Matters, Edinburgh Printmakers, until Sat May 23
Artists, astronomers and space engineers collaborate in this art project exploring the topic of deep space, with a series of site-specific installations planned for the coming 12 months. Get a taster at this exhibition.

The Producers, Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Mon Mar 23-Sat Mar 28
Jason Manford (pictured above) takes the lead in this stage adaptation of Mel Brooks’ movie about a spectacularly awful Broadway musical. With Nazis.

Frank Turner: The Road Beneath My Feet, Waterstones West End, Tue Mar 24
He’s playing a sold out gig at Glasgow’s Oran Mor in the evening, but those that don’t have a ticket can still catch the former folk-punk singer-songwriter and former Million Dead frontman at this signing of his new book of tour memoirs.

Frankie Boyle, The Stand, Wed Mar 25
The bad boy of Scottish comedy wraps up his current run of work-in-progress runs for upcoming show ‘I’m Better Than This’.

Sacred Paws, Sneaky Pete’s, Wed Mar 25
Not to be confused with grungy noisemakers Paws, Ailidh Rodgers and Rachel Aggs are a Rock Action-signed indie-pop duo whose tropical summery melodies recall the Djangos, Bwani Junction and the like. They’re launching their new ‘Six Songs’ EP on this tour.

Wild Tales, selected release from Fri Mar 27
An absurdly brutal episode of road rage, a parking ticket beurocracy farce and an airplane-bound revenge story are among the highlights of Argentine writer-director Damián Szifron’s hilarious satirical anthology flick. Watch the trailer to get a taster for it.

Neu Reekie, Summerhall, Fri Mar 27
The latest edition of the regular poetry and performance night features bits and pieces from composer and ex-Coral guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones, writer and filmmaker Sandra Alland, squalling Glasgow shoegazers Holy Esque, poet Kevin Cadwallender and animator Claire Lamond.

Body, Henry’s Cellar Bar, Fri Mar 27
Another instalment of the underground house and techno night, this time featuring Philip Kearney, well kent to attendees of regular Sneaky Pete’s night Bixon and Berlin’s Chalet club.

Grrrl Jam, Wee Red Bar, Sat Mar 28
Enjoy a screening of Kathleen Hanna doc ‘The Punk Singer’ followed by a raucous club night of girl-made music – expect tracks from Hanna-affiliated groups (Le Tigre, Bikini Kill) plus Siouxsie And The Banshees, Madonna, No Doubt and more.

Rock & Roll Ping Pong, The Bongo Club, Sun Mar 29
One of our recurring favourites in Edinburgh, this beer, tunes and ping pong night with the after-school-club vibe marries thumping garage and punk rock with an amateur-friendly table tennis tourney.
