Three of the best club events in Edinburgh this week

There must have been something in the air in February 2005, for two of Edinburgh’s most established club nights have been around for a decade come Friday. Funk and soul club Four Corners and drum'n'bass and dubstep axis Xplicit (now operating as part of Nightvision) both have guest nights to celebrate. Karnival also celebrate their 9th with Joris Voorn on Saturday, but we’ve gone for the midweek Hessle Audio bash as our third essential pick this week.

Partial presents a Hessle Audio Takeover – The Caves, Tue Feb 3
Annual leave /missed lecture duvet Wednesdays don’t come much more forgivable than when a night of this quality has just preceded it. In the vaulted Caves just off the Cowgate, iconic dubstep label Hessle Audio’s three founders – Ben UFO, Pearson Sound (aka Ramadanman) and Pangaea – will tear it up for the Partial crowd. The latter is a new Edinburgh night which specialises in these kind of away from the weekend bookings, their Monday-nighter with Zed Bias last year clearly having gone well enough to be worth another try.

Nightvision presents Xplicit’s 10th Birthday with Noisia – La Belle Angele, Fri Feb 6
Before the new and very successful Edinburgh club brand Nightvision formed at the beginning of last autumn, its predecessors Musika and Xplicit were individually active in bringing their own big-name guests to the city. For the 10th anniversary of bass, dubstep and drum ‘n’ bass exponent Xplicit it’s striking out for a very special night (sort of) on its own once more, this time with a special guest appearance from recent Drum and Bass Arena award winners Noisia as headliners. The Dutch trio will be joined by residents ENO, G-Mac and more.

Four Corners 10th Birthday with Craig Charles – Bongo Club, Fri Feb 6
Former ‘Red Dwarf’ and ‘Coronation Street’ star Craig Charles’s double life as a cultured and knowledgeable DJ of funk and soul classics on BBC Radio 6 Music is well-known, but less so is his association with long-standing Edinburgh night Four Corners, whose tastes also include afrobeat, disco, reggae and latin. His connection with 4C guv’nor Simon Hodge will see him take the reins at this 10th birthday party, with just 200 extra tickets available on the door at 11pm.
