Three of the best club events in Edinburgh this week

We’re afraid you’re going to have to toss a couple of coins to decide upon which post-Easter shenanigan of choice suits this week, because all the best stuff seems to be on Friday. We find it hard to see past Kolsch, personally, but there’s some Bristolian dubstep and Scottish techno elsewhere for those who fancy it.

Karnival with Kolsch – La Belle Angele, Fri Apr 10
Described by Mixmag as having redefined techno with his 2013 album on Kompakt ‘1977’, the mighty (we’re not exaggerating) Danish producer Rune Reilly Kolsch has been all over the last two years, creating the anthem ‘Cassiopeia’, a classic Essential Mix for Pete Tong, a summer of Ibiza sets last year and this year’s irresistible ‘DerDieDas’. Yet the name Kolsch is just the latest phase in an impressive two-decade career, which saw him sell bucketloads with ‘Calabria’ as Rune RK in 2003 and subsequently set up his own Tattoorec label.

Partial with Peverelist and Kowton – Wee Red Bar, Fri Apr 10
Although they only curate shows semi-regularly in Edinburgh, local club promoters Partial have got a good track record for sourcing quality. Previous nights have seen Zed Bias and the Hessle Audio team arrive in the city, while this special b2b double-header brings two of Bristol’s most exciting production and DJ talents to the intimate surroundings of Edinburgh College of Art’s Wee Red Bar. Peverelist (aka Pev, or his given name Tom Ford - that's him pictured above) was at the forefront of his city’s entry into the dubstep genre a decade ago as a record store owner and the boss of his Punch Drunk label, while Kowton (aka Joe Cowton) has released on his own and with Pev on their Livity Sound collaboration, and together they’re on for the full four hours here.

SLVR x Pulse with Clouds – The Mash House, Fri Apr 10
A youthful guest artist for just as young a club night here, Perth-raised (Scotland, not Australia) duo Clouds will help promoters SLVR celebrate their first year in existence, in a co-promotion with more established techno night Pulse. Clouds (Liam Robertson and Calum Macleod) are both barely into their 20s but they’ve already built up an enviable track record of first-rate techno releases, starting out on Fake Blood’s Blood Music label five years ago and now finding an esteemed home on Tiga’s forward-thinking Turbo Recordings. Their set here will be accompanied by a bunch of SLVR and Pulse residents.
