Three of the best club events in Edinburgh this week

It’s Bank Holiday weekend, and seeing as Edinburgh doesn’t have quite the same tradition as Glasgow in this sense, two of Glasgow’s best DJs are coming through to the capital for a Sunday-nighter of epic proportions. Elsewhere, look out for a great techno double bill on Saturday and one of the UK’s finest young producers earlier in the week.

Juice with Daniel Avery – Sneaky Pete’s, Thu Apr 30
Quite simply an incredible, unmissable midweek party, with a special guest appearance from Daniel Avery (pictured above), who came to redefine techno – or rather, put a particularly classic, UK-flavoured strain of it back on the map – with his 2013 debut album ‘Drone Logic’, which was released on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy label. Earlier this year saw the release of the ‘New Energy (Collected Remixes)’ double package on the same imprint, featuring reworks for the likes of Factory Floor, Perc and Audion, and further proof that Avery knows his way round an irresistible bassline.

Jackhammer with Mike Dearborn and Billy Nasty – Liquid Room, Sat May 2
One new face and one returning name headline this strong double bill, with first Chicago’s Mike Dearborn (aka Crimson, Mickey Hustle and a remixer for Gary Numan, Hardfloor and Joey Beltram at various points in his life) taking the lead slot and the Guinness Book of Records-listed first DJ ever to release a commercial mix CD Billy Nasty joining in. Alongside the pair of them, Jackhammer residents Keyte and Wolfjazz also play mainly techno.

Harri and Domenic’s Bank Holiday Belter – Sneaky Pete’s, Sun May 3
It’s not that having a bank holiday Sunday night out is unheard of in Edinburgh, but the city doesn’t tend to go for it to the same degree as Glasgow, which inevitably sees more guest DJs descend upon the city than you’d see on an average Saturday night. Ironic, then, that the biggest bank holiday night out in Edinburgh will see two of Glasgow’s most beloved DJs decamp to the east, with Harri and Domenic – who have run the Subculture Saturday nighter at the Sub Club for the past 21 years – showing off their sublime sourcing of Detroit techno, Chicago house and contemporary styles which owe a debt to the above.
