August in Edinburgh: a time for dress up, running about daft, temper tantrums, tears and laughter. And that’s just the adults. The Edinburgh Festivals also offer lots to keep kids busy, with almost 200 events for young people of all ages in the Fringe brochure alone. The Edinburgh International Book Festival caters widely for the yoofs too through its Baillie Gifford Children’s Programme, and there’s even provision for kids at the Edinburgh Art Festival. Don’t forget about The Festival Wheel in East Princes Street Gardens too. Because sometimes you’re just like, 'To heck with art, let’s go up a big wheel.'

Edinburgh Art Festival Explorers

Kids are never too young to start getting excited about art. Find out by taking the Edinburgh Art Festival Explorers trail – a specially selected and planned series of fun, creative activities for youngsters and families focussed on key exhibitions and commissions from the festival programme. Pick up a free booklet and map from participating galleries and exhibitions, which include Dovecot Gallery’s ‘Kwang Young Chun: Aggregations’, the Ingleby Gallery’s ‘Charles Avery: The People and Things of Onomatopoeia’ and the Old Royal High School’s ‘Kemang Wa Lehulere: Join the Dots’.
