Hadrian's Brasserie

It might look formal but this venue presents no barrier to casual dining

Part of the Balmoral Hotel, Hadrian’s has been a dependable presence on the capital’s dining scene since 1997. The décor is tasteful and contemporary while the menus cover everything from a quick business lunch to pre-theatre, à la carte to something for the children. The cuisine is modern European; a typical main might be cod with black olive and herb crust, crushed Brussels sprouts, citrus and Avruga sauce.

We came here to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. It was a great choice. The smoked salmon from the trolley looked amazing and everyone who had it said it was the best smoked salmon they had for a long while. The duck, risotto, seabass and fish and chips were all amazing and full of flavour. I ordered the fish and chips and the fish was cooked well and with a light batter that didn't take over the dish. For dessert I ordered the coconut cream with pineapple which was a little too rich for me as it was more about the cream than the pineapple, which would have been nicer caramelised. However a friend's rum baba was really tasty and caused food envy. The birthday girl got a birthday dessert and bonus little sweet nibbles to share out. The service was friendly and unforgettable.
