This is the dining room of a secluded hotel, under Calton Hill, but a very short walk from the east end of Princes Street. The establishment makes great play of its history although MP’s Bistro can feel functional rather than romantic. The menu leans on its Caledonian heritage: starters like haggis meatballs with beetroot purée and kale, mains like Scottish rib eye steak. Two pre-theatre courses are £16.50, posh choices extra.
