Farmers in nineteenth century Scotland had to provide a female helper (a 'bondager') to assist with field work – if his wife was too busy with childcare, he had to hire one. The lives of the bondagers are explored in Sue Glover's play, directed by Lu Kemp ('Don Quixote', 'Arabian Nights').
