With his adaptation of JG Ballard’s dystopian sci-fi novel ‘High-Rise’, director Ben Wheatley heads back to the future. Specifically, the future as seen from the mid-1970s, a time of shag carpets, sleek skyscrapers and galloping social strife. Without wallowing in nostalgia, Wheatley nails the mood of the era: if you were born after 1979, this might be the closest you’ll get to time travel.
