Jyväskylä has a lively and varied thrift store scene that perfectly suits its student city vibe. You’ll find everything here, from big, chaotic self-service flea markets to small, curated boutiques selling high-quality pre-loved fashion.

Alongside the familiar charity shops, Jyväskylä also has community-run thrift stores where you can uncover affordable treasures of all kinds. There are also spots that focus on Finnish design and children’s items, among others.

Many of Jyväskylä’s second-hand shops are located in or near the city centre, and all are easy to reach. You can hop on a Linkki bus (the local public transport) and get to any of the featured shops within 20 minutes. All the ones outside the centre also have free parking right outside.

Best second hand stores in Jyväskylä

1. Round

One of Jyväskylä’s newest thrift stores, Round sits in a bright, tastefully decorated space inside a red-brick industrial building. The cosy atmosphere is topped off by a small café serving specialty coffee and fresh pastries every day.

Round combines a traditional self-service flea market with a curated selection of clothes sourced by the owners from across Europe. The self-service section stays tidy thanks to daily organising. Most stalls sell women’s clothing, and its location near Kortepohja makes it especially popular with students.

Address: Onkapannu 8

Opening hours: Mon–Fri 11:00–19:00, Sat–Sun 11:00–16:00

2. Vella

Vella is Jyväskylä’s most pleasant spot for finding pre-loved children’s clothes and accessories. You’ll often come across popular premium kidswear brands here too. The shop is compact enough to browse comfortably even with a baby in tow, and there’s a popular play area for older kids. Parents can enjoy coffee, snacks and a space for feeding or taking a break – the idea is that families will want to stay a while.

The staff keep the place spotless by tidying the stalls daily. Alongside individual tables, Vella has themed sections for things like outerwear, toys, and maternity or nursing clothes. There are also racks of adult clothing sorted by size. In addition to second-hand items, Vella sells a small range of new products, especially from local makers.

Address: Ailakinkatu 5

Opening hours: Mon–Thu 10:00–18:00, Fri 10:00–17:00, Sat 10:00–16:00

3. Silinteri Flea Market

Silinteri is a proper old-school self-service flea market where you can find a bit of everything. It’s particularly known for its affordable children’s clothes, though there’s also a good selection of women’s clothing. You’ll find some furniture too – Silinteri buys contents from homes and estates, which adds to the variety. Prices here tend to be lower than at many other flea markets in the city.

Address: Kirrinkuja 1, Palokka

Opening hours: Mon–Fri 10:00–19:00, Sat 10:00–16:00

4. Kulmaputiikki Second Hand

Kulmaputiikki is a small second-hand section inside Koto Designmarket. Each seller can offer 1–20 quality garments or accessories at a time, with no more than five sellers at once. Since Koto focuses on Finnish design and sustainable fashion, the pre-loved corner follows suit with high-quality local and international brands made from durable materials. The compact layout and neat displays make it easy to browse. Prices here are a little higher than at traditional flea markets.

Address: Yliopistonkatu 32 (inside Koto Designmarket)

5. Herttala

Herttala is a small women’s second-hand boutique tucked beside Harju, with a carefully and tastefully curated collection. Despite its compact size, the shop feels airy, with beautifully presented pieces throughout.

Its opening hours are quite limited, but Herttala also operates online. What makes it extra special is a clever free service: tell the owner what you’re looking for in advance and she’ll hand-pick a selection of clothes for you to try on when you visit.

Address: Yliopistonkatu 8

Opening hours: Fri 11:00–18:00, Sat 11:00–15:00

6. Rebel

Rebel is a self-service flea market specialising in branded clothing, located in a prime spot on the second floor of the Sokkari shopping centre. There’s no strict list of which brands can be sold, but the overall style fits well with its department store neighbour. You’ll find women’s fashion here as well as some men’s and children’s clothing, and the central location means items move fast.

The shop is tidy and well organised, with rails arranged daily. Its concept seems inspired by Helsinki’s Relove, and it once even had a café inside – sadly, that’s no longer the case. Prices are on the higher side for a flea market, and at the moment, Rebel is operating in a smaller temporary space due to renovations at Sokkari.

Address: Kauppakatu 24 (2nd floor, Sokkari shopping centre)

Opening hours: Mon–Fri 11:00–18:00, Sat 11:00–16:00

7. UniQtori

UniQtori is one of Jyväskylä’s newest flea markets, located in the former premises of Kirpparilla.fi. The earlier store was once a local favourite, and UniQtori has a similar vibe – a big, traditional self-service flea market with a bit of everything.

It’s especially worth visiting if you love vintage finds, quirky old pieces, home décor and crockery. UniQtori also has a sizeable antiques section featuring furniture imported from Central Europe.

Address: Sorastajantie 1 (upper floor)

Opening hours: Mon–Fri 10:00–18:00, Sat 10:00–17:00, Sun 11:00–16:00

8. Sovatek Second Hand

Charity-run thrift stores are often the best places to dig up materials for DIY projects, and Sovatek is a great example. It’s operated by a local foundation that focuses on preventing and treating substance abuse and mental health issues, as well as supporting employment.

Sovatek’s recycling shop relies on donations, and prices are very affordable – for example, clothes and textiles are sold by weight at six euros per kilo. The store is neatly organised into departments for easy browsing. Alongside textiles, you’ll find furniture, books, toys and craft supplies.

Address: Sorastajantie 1 (upper floor)

Opening hours: Mon–Fri 10:00–18:00, Sat 10:00–16:00
