There will be no standing on ceremony at Senate Square this weekend. On Saturday 5 September, the square turns into one giant dancefloor for the 2026 Finnish final of Red Bull Dance Your Style.
At the free event, 16 of Finland’s leading street dancers go head to head in one-on-one battles. Over the course of the evening, the same dancefloor will see everything from hip hop and krump to popping, waacking, locking and dancehall.
There is no point perfecting a set choreography in advance, because the dancers have no idea what track they will be performing to. The music is a surprise in every round, so improvisation, musicality and the ability to win over the crowd become just as important as technical skill.
The audience picks the winner
There is no judging panel at Red Bull Dance Your Style. Instead, the winner of each battle is chosen by the audience in a live vote. Round by round, the crowd decides which dancer stays in the competition, until one finalist is eventually crowned Finnish champion.
This is the fourth time the event has been held in Finland, but the first time it has taken over Senate Square. Last year’s final was staged at Lasipalatsi Square. Thousands of spectators are expected at the new venue this year.
The competition is hosted by dancer and actor Latisha Allen and dancer and choreographer Sonya Lindfors, with music from German DJ Just-A-Kid.
There will also be a surprise interval show featuring, according to the organisers, one of Finland’s hottest artists right now. Their identity will only be revealed at the event.
The competition starts at 7pm, but the event area opens an hour earlier. The main viewing area is on and around the steps of Helsinki Cathedral. The event is accessible, but capacity is limited, so it is worth arriving early.
