What’s going on in Finnish techno? You’ll get a good picture of it at the Domestic Techno Review on Friday 27.03.2026, when a total of 12 DJ and VJ combinations perform at Kuudes Linja over the course of one night. The performers have been selected from around 70 applicants. The VJs create the visual form for each performance.
‘Producers performing their own music play live using laptops or hardware, meaning synths, samplers and drum machines, either solo or as multi-person ensembles,’ says the event’s organiser and founder, DJ and producer Samuli Kemppi.
The DJs and VJs often don’t know each other beforehand, but the festival organisers have brought them together. Each set lasts around 30 minutes, so you can see and hear a lot in a short space of time. It’s fair to call the event a mini festival.
‘The atmosphere is really collective,’ says Kemppi. ‘Here you can see that techno is more than just scruffy basement corners. The Techno Review offers a great snapshot of where things stand right now in marginal music.’
This is already the 16th time the Techno Review has been held. Over the years, techno and VJ culture have also gained official recognition as art forms. Some of the VJs are art students from Aalto University, performing as part of their studies in different combinations under the name Fried Visuals.
Samuli Kemppi also notes that the festival has had its first children, as DJ Rasmus Hedlund and VJ Paula Lehtonen, who met at the Domestic Techno Review, have started a family.
