Helsinki will be filled with light and colour in January as Lux Helsinki takes over the city from 6 to 11 January. The festival expands into a six-day event and brings with it 20 light artworks spread across iconic central locations from Kansalaistori to Hietalahdentori and Vanha kirkkopuisto. This year, Lux will also be visible at Kanneltalo and in ten art galleries.
Lux Helsinki’s installations will be lit from 6 to 11 January between 17.00 and 22.00, and additionally during Lux Mornings on 8 and 9 January from 7.00 to 9.00.
The theme, Stop time!, invites visitors to pause and breathe with the art. Highlights include Valon Huoneet, which transforms the cranes at the Helsinki shipyard; Viimeinen tanssi, which takes over Lasipalatsi Square with light and sound; and the enchanting Mycelium Network in Vanha kirkkopuisto. Families can enjoy the animation projected onto Annantalo’s façade and Twist & Shine in Lastenlehdonpuisto, where visitors can create their own light art.
For the first time, Lux will leave a lasting mark on the city even after the festival. Hietalahdentori will gain a permanent addition: Soleil Nuit, a work by French artist Sébastien Lefèbvre that will shimmer year-round.
