Brit rock’s most provocative – and arguably most vital – voice of outsiderdom, Placebo, are heading to Helsinki as part of a massive anniversary tour. Expect a bittersweet trip back to the mid-’90s. When Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal formed Placebo, the world looked very different. At the height of Britpop’s laddish swagger, the charts were full of brash optimism – but Placebo brought something else entirely: confrontation, make-up, androgyny and an unflinching take on addiction.

Now, exactly 30 years after the release of their legendary self-titled debut, the band will take to the stage at Veikkaus Arena on Sunday October 18, 2026. The show is part of a 40-city world tour dedicated to Placebo (1996).

A setlist 20 years in the making

Placebo have built a reputation as a band that looks forward rather than back, often leaving older hits off their setlists. But for this tour, the rules are changing. The band have promised to perform songs that haven’t been played live in over two decades. If you’ve been dreaming of hearing ‘Nancy Boy’ or ‘36 Degrees’ with their original ferocity, this is your night.

RE:CREATED – a ‘director’s cut’ debut

To mark the anniversary, the band will release Placebo RE:CREATED in June. This isn’t just a remaster – it’s what Brian Molko calls a “director’s cut”.

'When we made the first album, we didn’t yet have the experience or studio skills. Now we’ve brought into the songs everything that 30 years of playing them live has added,' the band explain.

The new version of the debut lands on June 19.

Still as relevant as ever

While the 1990s may feel distant, Placebo’s themes – identity, gender expression and individuality – feel more timely and more contested than ever in 2026. Placebo were queer and non-binary long before those terms entered the mainstream, and their music remains a refuge for anyone who feels out of step with the norm.

The band last played Finland in 2022, but this October’s show at Veikkaus Arena promises something far more nostalgic, and more intimate, despite the arena setting.
Sunday October 18, 2026, Veikkaus Arena, Helsinki. Tickets on sale Friday March 27 at 11.00 via Ticketmaster.
