One of Helsinki’s best restaurants is expanding. On 20 January 2026, Restaurant Teller opens Tales Wine Bar, a new wine-focused sibling just next door.

The naming is nicely on the nose. Teller, housed in a former bank building, means both a bank clerk and a storyteller. Tales is all about stories. Soon, the storyteller and the stories will sit side by side.

Opened just a couple of years ago by Teemu Laurell and Lennart Sukapää, Teller rocketed straight into Helsinki’s top tier, which means expectations for Tales are sky-high. The owners promise a wine bar with a strong sense of character, deliberately different from the city’s other wine spots. The slogan sets the ambition clearly: “A wine bar for great stories.”

Booking ahead is essential at Teller, and while Tales will also take reservations, plenty of space will be kept for walk-ins. The two venues share a kitchen, but food served at Tales will run through its own prep kitchen. Alcohol-free wines are part of the plan, too.

This restaurant-plus-wine-bar pairing is fast becoming a Helsinki trend. The classic Restaurant Muru has long had its own wine bar, and in summer 2025 the much-loved Kuurna opened a wine bar right next door.

Tales Wine Bar will be open Tuesday to Saturday, 4pm–11pm.
