If the word ‘gym’ brings to mind grey weights and cold lighting, it’s time for an update. The best workout spots in Helsinki are anything but dull. Think HIIT sessions under red lights, serene pilates studios, rope-based training and old-school iron temples where weights clang in rhythm. What they all share is an atmosphere that draws you in – and keeps you coming back.

We tried ten gyms and studios where training feels more like an experience than a routine. Lace up your trainers, pick a class that excites you and get moving!

Best gyms in Helsinki

1. Challenge yourself with HYROX at Ole.Fit Vallila

If your usual gym routine feels repetitive, HYROX is here to shake things up. The concept is simple but intense: one kilometre of running followed by an exercise such as sled push, rowing or wall balls – repeated for eight rounds.

Ole.Fit Vallila is Helsinki’s first official HYROX Training Studio. The workouts are demanding but never competitive – the focus is on progress, not comparison. The instructors make sure your technique is on point and cheer on both beginners and seasoned athletes alike. The atmosphere is upbeat and community-driven.

A single session costs €25, and membership starts at €49 for four weeks, with no binding contracts.

2. Take flight with Lumotar’s Bungee Fun classes

If you didn’t get airborne, was it even a workout? This one’s worth the trip to Espoo. Lumotar is a Finnish pioneer in bungee fitness, and Bungee Fun is its own registered trademark.

In these classes you’re suspended from ceiling-mounted cords – jumping, squatting and soaring, working your body almost without realising it. The result is a mix of strength, balance and pure freedom. The movement is both powerful and exhilarating, and many find themselves hooked after just one session.

Lumotar also offers rebound boots and other high-flying classes that keep the focus on fun. Sessions cost around €20, and multi-class passes are available for regular flyers.

3. Lift to the beat at PTVGYM

PTVGYM is one of Helsinki’s most distinctive gyms. The vibe is more urban training cave than chain gym: graffiti on the walls, pumping beats in the background and the satisfying clang of metal.

It’s open 24 hours a day, so you can train at your own pace. You’ll find everything you need for strength and functional workouts, with an atmosphere that’s laid-back but serious about results.

Memberships start at around €50 per month, but you can also try it out with a weekly or single-pass option. Doors are open every day of the year.

4. Reach new heights at Helsinki Climbing Centre

It’s easy to get hooked on scaling walls at Helsinki Climbing Centre. You can boulder (that’s climbing lower walls without ropes) or try the auto-belay routes that make it easy for first-timers to join in.

Drop-ins are welcome – gear hire and an introductory briefing are included in the price. A single visit costs €22 for adults and €16 for children. Kids are just as welcome as grown-ups; the youngest climbers have been as young as three, and families can easily find routes to suit everyone.

The centre’s terrace boulder is something special: in summer the big doors open to the outdoors, and in cooler weather they close to keep the space cosy. You can climb there all year round, making it one of a kind in the Nordics.

5. Find calm in motion at Pilates & Barre Glow

Step inside and the city’s rush fades away. Pilates & Barre Glow’s studios in Tripla and Kluuvi are intimate, peaceful spaces where instruction is personal and the teachers are highly experienced.

Classes focus on precise, controlled movement using reformer machines or at the barre. The workout feels gentle, but you’ll discover new muscles the next day. Intro sessions are offered for beginners, making it easy to join and learn the moves safely.

The studio suits both newcomers and experienced practitioners. Single classes cost €28–34 depending on the class type, with multi-class passes offering better value.

6. Step onto the mats at Crest

The first thing you notice at Crest is the energy. This gym in Metsälä has an atmosphere that makes you move: gloves snapping, sweat flying and coaches cheering everyone on with equal enthusiasm.

Crest is a combat-sport classic where you can train in Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ and boxing. The beginner courses are designed for newcomers, offering a calm introduction to the basics before moving into sparring. Experienced fighters can jump straight into the regular classes.

Most training here runs on a monthly membership, though those with martial arts experience can also drop in for single sessions.

7. Sweat it out in club mode at TRIB3

TRIB3 brought to Helsinki a workout that feels more like a night out than an early-morning gym session. The old Adlon cinema has been transformed into a red-lit, bass-filled HIIT studio where your heart rate flashes on the wall and sweat is guaranteed.

Classes combine running, weight training and bodyweight exercises, with instructors keeping the energy high. Afterwards, you can grab a protein smoothie from the bar.

First-timers can try TRIB3 for free, and a single session costs €29. There are several membership options, starting from around €15 per week. A second TRIB3 studio on Sturenkatu offers cycling and reformer pilates sessions too.

8. Give it your all at CrossFit Bulsa

Tucked just off Bulevardi, CrossFit Bulsa may be small, but it’s bursting with energy. As soon as you walk in, you hear the clang of weights and the coach’s motivating shouts. The atmosphere is warm and everyone’s encouraged to train at their own level.

Small groups and personal encouragement make the sessions stand out. A particular favourite is the Mamas & Papas class, where babies come along and the vibe is as gentle as it is sweaty.

New members start with the On Ramp course to learn safe techniques before joining regular WOD workouts. Monthly memberships start from €135.

9. Train together at Bööna – for women only

Bööna in Kallio is a women’s gym with a calm, welcoming feel. The high ceilings, soft light and carefully considered design make it quite possibly Helsinki’s most beautiful gym.

Here, movement is varied and approachable: alongside the spacious gym area, you’ll find yoga, cross training and beginner-friendly gym classes. Occasional workshops add a creative, relaxed twist to training.

Membership costs around €50 per month, or you can drop in for €15. Bööna is a cosy, genuinely supportive space – part workout spot, part community.

10. Work out for less at UniSport

Ever wondered where the city’s students work out? Chances are it’s UniSport. Run jointly by Aalto University, Hanken, the University of Helsinki and Uniarts, this fitness centre offers top facilities at student-friendly prices. With an annual pass, you’ll train for about the price of a couple of coffees a month.

Across its gyms in Kluuvi, Töölö, Meilahti and Otaniemi, you can hit the weights, join a class or play team sports with friends. The facilities are well designed, the booking system is straightforward and the vibe is refreshingly relaxed.

Memberships are among the most affordable in the city – and you can even try a session for free.
