Theatre Under The Stars says
A fantastic cap to the TUTS 15/16 season, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder brings the “Brit Invasion” theme to a close with the previous year’s (2014) Tony Award® winner for Best Musical – continuing TUTS’ dedication to bring the very best in musical theatre to the Houston stage as soon as possible.

A “laugh-your-ass-off comedy,” the story focuses on Monty Navarro, a penniless young man who discovers he is the ninth in line to become the Earl of Highhurst. Since the aristocratic family, the D’Ysquiths, disinherited his deceased mother and deny his existence, Monty takes matters into his own hands; he knocks off each of his (eight) relatives, one by one, in outrageously amusing ways.

Described by Director Darko Tresnjak as a comic, elaborate Edwardian version of The Talented Mr. Ripley, kept light and entertaining by amazing theatricality – a toy stage constantly opens to reveal new two-dimensional settings for the murders (a parish church, a frozen lake, a garden, etc.), and the ensemble of six play multiple roles. Every single one of the D’Ysquiths – male, female, young and old – is played by the same actor.
