Please join us on October 29th 2015 at 7pm for a reading of Otherwise Borne, a specially commissioned text, written by Houston based writer and philosopher Joshua Lawrence, to accompany the current exhibition, Ya nos llevó el Nahual/ Babaroga je dosla/ (the Boogeyman Is here) September 18th – November 7th, 2015 Featuring the work of artists Maja Ruznic and Luz María Sánchez .

Lawrence will be reading from this 'experiment', which in his words, " attempts hop-scotch with the themes of errantry, suffering, and witness. Motivated by Foucault’s concept of “bio-politics,”" Lawrence speaks (a)theologically and historically on various matters insofar as they are writ large on the body of a witness.

Lawrence specializes in Continental philosophy of religion and political theology, with a strong interest in conceptual approaches to art and literature. He is a contributing editor for the Journal of Religion, Identity, and Politics, and holds membership in the American Academy of Religion, Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy, and the American Weil Society. Lawrence is a doctoral student in the Joint Ph.D. Program facilitated by the University of Denver and Iliff School of Theology. His areas of research include 20th century Continental Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, and Political Theology. He is a member of the American Academy of Religion, the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy, and the American Weil Society.
