Graveyard Shift: Event Horizon In 35mm! says
The year is 2047, seven years after the mysterious disappearance of experimental starship Event Horizon. After receiving a distress call from the edge of the solar system, Captain Miller and his rescue team set out on a classified salvage mission – the Event Horizon has suddenly returned. The ship’s creator, Dr. Weir, explains the ship was designed to travel to the farthest limits of the known universe. Miller and his crew discover the Event Horizon went even further…and it’s brought something back with it.

Following the ‘success’ of MORTAL KOMBAT, director Paul Anderson took a proffered studio script about alien mind-control and warped it into his tribute to THE SHINING and THE HAUNTING. Fortunately for everyone, he completely missed his mark (while stealing iconic scenes from each film). The result was EVENT HORIZON, an inadvertent mash-up of HELLRAISER and SOLARIS that ditches buried desire and slow musing for hackneyed dialogue, solid scares, and lovingly detailed gore effects. Continuing Terror Tuesday’s ‘Sam Neill Loses It’ streak, EVENT HORIZON is peak 90s horror, mall-goth bombast with a touch of ‘tude constantly mistaking flashy FX for emotional depth. McG machismo is balanced by earnestly ludicrous performances and lavish, if thoughtless, set design (maybe the future’s so advanced smoking in an enclosed ship’s totally chill). And lest you forget it’s 1997, the Orbital-heavy soundtrack will bring you home.
