Time Out says
HOUSTON TO GALVESTON #12
ROLL OUT 6:30AM SHARP
This is a bike ride from Downtown Houston to Galveston and back to Houston. Market Square to "The Spot" on Galveston Island. We will be doing lunch at "The Spot" on Seawall. After Lunch we return to Market Square in downtown Houston.
Please be sure your equipment can make this ride and that you are in shape to make this ride.
Some will ride back, some will camp, others will have someone meet them in Galveston to car back…your choice. Some people start on NASA 1 and do a half loop returning to their cars on NASA 1.
PREPARATIONS FOR THE RIDE:
1) Choose a group that fits your ability. Remember it's 100 miles plus round trip so choose wisely.
A: 19-21mph
B: 17-19mph
C: 14-17mph
2) We have seen road bikes, mountain bikes, fat bikes and fixed gear bikes do this ride but usually MTB hit the island a good 1-2 hours behind.
3) There will be 2 or 3 stops along each direction.
4) Please have an alternate plan for someone to pick you up if your bike disintegrates during the ride and you cannot continue.
5) We will not leave anyone for minor bike repairs (flats, adjustments, etc)
6) There are people who make the ride (and back) on fixies so if that’s you thing then bring it
7) There are people who made the ride there on a mountain bike but they showed up in Galveston 1.5 hours behind the rest of the group
8) We have not seen anyone make it more than half way on a Huffy or other such bike. We're not saying you can't do it, just saying it's may be a lot of extra work
9) We will get to Galveston at 10:30 - noon and have early lunch. Then either ride back, get picked up, or stay for the night, it's up to you. Most of the group will ride back.
10) We highly recommend the use of helmets for the Houston to Galveston Ride.
Should be another great ride
