More info about Museum Experience Zone 2:

Journey around the world by exploring eight museums filled with history, heritage and humanity

Spring’s upcoming block party, The Museum Experience, returns April 25, showcasing some of the district’s more diverse institutions. Being the largest zone features eight museums with collections ranging from abstract to avant-garde, contemporary craft, design and several exhibitions that focus on culturally-specific subject matter. Dance workshops, Holocaust survivor stories, Civil era wartime re-enactments, ancestry charting, live metalsmithing and a design marketplace will be on view.

Some topics include Chinese, Czech and Mexican immigration and traditions through identity and ancestral exploration, Civil and World War II era themes, movies, historical discussions and choreographed dance workshops. Local artist guilds will showcase pottery making, quilting, woodturning, metalsmithing and for the architecture enthusiast, Lawndale Art Center hosts their annual Design Fair; a marketplace for contemporary design alongside vintage modern objects. Several food trucks including Melange Creperie and Moon Rooster will be stationed within the zone.

To heighten the block party atmosphere and activate spaces between venues, the Houston Museum District has teamed up with southmorehouse presents, a Houston-based group dedicated to promoting local artists, emphasizing expression in all genres and engineering audience-participatory events. Community driven programming will take place at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Houston Museum of African American Culture and Asia Society Texas Center and will be thematic to each museum's mission and exhibits.
Travelers who make a staycation of the event can take advantage of discounted accommodations at Hotel Zaza by using the special code ME. METRO light rail has several dedicated stops in the district, and getting around the zone is facilitated with free pedicabs provided by LoneStar BikeCabs.

Those attending are encouraged to post event photos through Houston Museum District’s FaceBook, Twitter and Instagram social media feeds using #housmuse #museumexperience. Contests including memberships, merchandise are open by tuning into The Beat 93.7 and Sunny 99.1FM and online through
