Discussion and performance in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday featuring David Banner, Bernard "Bun B" Freeman, Toni Blackman, and Dr. Anthony Pinn; moderated by Aundrea Matthews
Presented in partnership with the Center for Engaged Leadership and Collaborative Learning at Rice University

The Rothko Chapel continues its tradition of honoring The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life with a discussion and performance on his birthday. This year the Chapel is honored to welcome award-winning artist David Banner, Houston legend Bernard "Bun B" Freeman, musical ambassador Toni Blackman, and author Dr. Anthony Pinn to discuss the intersection of music and civil rights; Aundrea Matthews moderates. How has hip hop contributed to the conversations on racial justice, including the Black Lives Matter movement? Do artists have a responsibility to MLK’s legacy? Following the discussion, join a reception on the plaza featuring a cipher of local Houston artists, including Genesis Blu.
