On Monday, April 13 at 6:30 pm, Brazos Bookstore will host a publication launch party for Unfold: Houston Revealed. Unfold is a product of a new Interdisciplinary Arts course at UH, taught last Fall for the first time by Associate Professor of Graphic Design Cheryl Beckett and English/Creative Writing Professor Peter Turchi, made possible by the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, and bringing together graduate and undergraduate students in Graphic Design, Creative Writing, and Art.

Unfold is an atlas of nine surprising and original maps meant both to reveal parts of Houston and to inspire further exploration. "Triskaidekaphobia" depicts 13 of the buildings in the Medical Center dedicated to science yet succumbing to superstition: none of them have a floor numbered 13. "Signal2Noise" charts the invisible yet highly trafficked wireless networks in four Houston neighborhoods, with names that range from mundane to comic, from vulgar to political. "Hol(e)y City" combines a visual representation of potholes surrounding Lakewood Church with quotations from scripture, sermons, and city documents speaking as if with one voice about flooding, upheaval, and the need for maintenance.

Unfold: Houston Revealed is published in a limited edition of 300. Copies will be available at the launch party, with all proceeds benefiting Houston Habitat for Humanity.
