Casa Jaali occupies the ideal middle ground in sleepy South Goa. It’s peaceful enough to be able to properly unwind, yet close enough to lively Palolem if you want a change of scene. The property’s undeniably gorgeous: ten rooms perched atop a rocky outcrop on Patnem Beach, with the Arabian Sea crashing against rocks perhaps metres from your room. The resulting view’s a dramatic peninsula, with the beach accessible via a wooden walkway, a garden bursting with tropical colour, and butterflies dancing between flowering plants. 

What are the rooms like at Casa Jaali?
The rooms strike a sophisticated balance between Goan heritage and modern comfort: traditional chira walls and wooden beams meet contemporary furnishing. It’s comforting but not overly opulent.

You’ll find garden retreat rooms (all of 16 square metres) as well as the more spacious sea-facing rooms, but the outdoor spaces are what really make Casa Jaali worth it. Rooms feature private verandahs and balconies, which ultimately double as a living area, a nook for breakfast, or even an afternoon siesta in good weather. Inside, you’ll find lime-washed walls, locally crafted furniture, and reliable air conditioning.

The family cottage is an even more considerable step up, with two bedrooms, a full kitchen, a living room with a sofa bed, and a gorgeous terrace. Every room here faces the sea. 

What to eat at Casa Jaali?

Jaali Kitchen’s very much a destination in its own right. Set on the waterfront with wicker pendant lights casting a warm glow as evening falls, it's the kind of restaurant that holidaygoers staying elsewhere will drive to just for the view. 

Head Chef Rajesh Pandi leads the kitchen with a menu that travels confidently from Middle Eastern mezze to Indian classics and international favorites. The all-day breakfast is a particular highlight, featuring ‘happy eggs’ (antibiotic and hormone-free), house-baked breads, and generous portions of shakshuka, dosa, and pao bhaji. Gluten-free options are plentiful, and the kitchen is happy to accommodate dietary requirements. The basque cheesecake has developed quite a following among regulars. 

The drinks program is equally impressive. The watermelon coconut feni cocktail showcases local spirits beautifully, there's top of the line Maverick & Farmer coffee for caffeine enthusiasts, and a wine list that mixes Indian and international bottles. Fresh juices taste genuinely fresh. During high season (November to March), weekly specials keep the menu exciting. Room service is available during restaurant hours, and the venue can be booked for private celebrations. It’s a great spot to propose to your girlfriend.

While there's no pool, you're just 35 meters from the Arabian Sea, which offers rather spectacular swimming opportunities. The gardens are beautifully maintained with plenty of quiet corners for reading or hanging out. The in-house boutique stocks quality local crafts and textiles – genuine finds rather than typical tourist offerings. The team is easily reachable via WhatsApp for arranging transfers, booking experiences, or requesting room service. If you’re a dog lover, you’ll find that the three resident dogs lounge around the place, adding to the welcoming vibe.

Patnem Beach offers the best of South Goa: a beautiful, broad, and blissfully uncrowded alcove, quieter than neighboring Palolem, but with enough beach shacks, yoga classes, and activities to keep you happily occupied. The fishing village has an authentic, local, unhurried feel that's become increasingly rare in Goa's more developed areas. The access road to the property is manageable but not perfectly smooth.
