Named for the “all work and no play” line in The Shining, this craft-cocktail club powered by the Garret’s Kyle O’Brien, Gavin Moseley and Adam Fulton is fixed on literature, nodding to luminaries like Ernest Hemingway, Charles Bukowski and Truman Capote. On first glance, it’s almost Brooklynesque: Edison bulbs hover above the copper-topped bar, a whitewashed exposed-brick wall showcases mounted Remington typewriters, and antique mirrored tabletops line the velvet banquettes. “Downtown Jersey City is quickly becoming home to the artists and creative types who, until recently, migrated to Brooklyn,” says Fulton. “It’s time for a classy place to unwind with a superior drink.” The classics-heavy drink menu features a rye flip called the Holly, with ginger, cherry and egg, and the Dolores, an orange-tinged, absinthe-rinsed twist on a martini.
