Most races are over in a few hours. This one stretches across an entire day and night, and it's reason enough not to miss the first local Michelin 24H Series taking place at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand in January 2027.

Drivers take turns behind the wheel, while pit crews manage fuel stops, tyre changes and other adjustments. The pace is relentless, as the teams try to keep their cars competitive.

The event runs from Friday, 8 January to Sunday, 11 January. The race was due to take place in Dubai before organisers moved it to South Africa amid uncertainty in the Middle East and associated logistical challenges.

So, what makes endurance racing different?

Instead of racing for a set number of laps over a shorter period, teams must keep their cars going for hours. Starting at 1pm on Saturday, 9 January, and finishing at 1pm the following day, taking competitors through a full night on the circuit.

Friday is when things get rolling, with free practice, qualifying and night practice on the programme. Fans can also get a closer look at the cars and meet the drivers during an evening pit walk and autograph session.

There's one more chance to get close to the cars on Saturday, with a grid walk scheduled before the race starts.

For those who don't want to miss the overnight action, Saturday and Sunday tickets allow you to stay at the circuit as the race continues into the early hours.

There will also be a Fan Village and the prerequisite grandstands for those who don't want to miss a moment of the racing - with the full schedule of the event yet to be announced.

Among the first teams confirmed are South Africa's Into Africa Racing and international competitors ARC Bratislava and Continental Racing by Simpson Motorsport. Keep an eye out for more team announcements as the race approaches.

If you've never watched an endurance race before, this is a chance to see how teams handle the shift from daylight to darkness and back again. The real test is maintaining the pace from the opening lap to the final lap.
