Heaven Is For Real

Every year has its fair share of massive roasted turkeys, and we’re guessing this loopy God-bothering melodrama might be a safe bet in 2014. Based on a ‘true story’ (just like the Bible), it’s the story of Pastor Todd Burpo (excuse you), whose three-year-old son returned from a near-death experience on the operating table talking of mysteries he couldn’t possibly understand, and claiming that he’d been to heaven where he met his deceased grandfather, and saw Jesus on his rainbow coloured horse (we’re not making this up). The book sold millions in America (of course it did), and the film version has attracted a surprisingly solid cast including Greg Kinnear as Burpo, Kelly Reilly as his long-suffering wife and, somewhat poetically, Thomas Haden Church in a supporting role.

This has got to be one of the prejudiced review's I have ever read and the film has not even come out yet.  IF this story was a one off near death experience then it could be put down to a child's imagination.  The reviewer obviously is blinkered to many other similar stories of people who have died and been brought back to life and then later recalled their out of body experiences - often they have found out things which they could have not known about before; like meeting relatives who have been long dead and they knew nothing about.

This film will create differences in opinion  but please watch it with a more open mind than the TimeOut reviewer, there are many more similar stories out there to count this off as a one off or fiction.
