Local Hero

For all the ballyhoo about Chariots of Fire, Forsyth's is the more significant film because it rediscovers a genre that was once among the British cinema's proudest achievements. Local Hero, which concerns the frustrations of a Texas oilman's attempts to buy up an idyllic Scottish village, ranks as a lyrical anti-urban comedy in the great tradition of films like I Know Where I'm Going and Whisky Galore!; and its essential triumph is to prove that comedy can still contain a gentle, almost mystical, aspect without necessarily being old-fashioned. The film achieves this best in its superb sense of location and the haunting contrast between Texas and Scotland. Forsyth cannot quite tease out of his characters the kind of strange sublety that Powell and Pressburger delivered, but it is enough that he and producer David Puttnam succeed in making you realise just how badly this kind of film has been missed.

From the article: "– and in the wake of Donald Trump’s terrifying ascendance, it’s even more timely.

"Terrifying ascendance?

Does this legitimately mean that a traditional US election, where the center right candidate beats the center-left candidate, (though some could argue that the left is far from the center anymore and are increasingly being run by far left communists and cults, but I digress), is now considered "TERRIFYING?  Seriously? Get a grip drama queens.

I hope and pray that the next generation now growing up is going to get a chance to see firsthand what a bunch of spoiled babies today's young adults are,  and then using that firsthand knowledge (but muh empiricals!) to decide to be nothing at all like those losers. Our nation depends on it. Our current 21-40 year old crop of people are the laziest, most self-centered, narcissistic, piece-of shit crybabies to date.

The young generation at the pre-university level is our only hope. We all need to work on getting the cultural Marxist professors fired, or at least getting them all identified so we can refuse to pay any portion of our children's tuitions to support those traitors. There are several websites that rate professors. Read ALL of THEM, then sort out the legit complaints from the disgruntled students that didn't get the grade that they wanted. It will be easy to tell from the legit comments what teachers are pushing pinko malarkey on their students so your kids can either skip those classes or debate those idiots and their lousy ideas into submission.
