Best Fiction film at Sundance 2002, Miller's film is based on three of her own short stories, each about a woman at a turning point in her life. Delia (Sedgwick, first rate) finally walks out on her abusive husband and gradually finds some self-respect (though not as you might expect). In the most original tale, Greta (Posey) is a book editor who gets the break of her life. And the tearaway Paula (Balk) hightails for home after near brushes with life and death. Plentiful voice-over sets a reflective literary tone, but it's also very shrewdly shot on DV - even if the third, most visual story is by far the least effective.
