Festival Of American Music 2: All Concertos says
Two world-premiere compositions are center-stage. Teddy Abrams offers his new composition, Muhammad Ali Portrait, a work inspired by Ali as a symbol of hope and a catalyst for positive change. And then the Louisville Concerto II brings together 4 Louisville-based musicians to collaborate and create a multi-dimensional new work.
Brilliant, young pianist Andrew Hsu is soloist for Grammy-award nominee Andrew Norman’s Split. The composer describes the solo part as a sort of “trickster” who taunts the orchestra but finds himself, in turn, pushed around by the players, especially three percussionist who are intent on antagonizing the pianist. The New York Times calls it “…audacious, exhilarating, and in a way, exhausting….”
