The Unfinished Man by Jim Wayne, a novel set in Indiana and Rome in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, tells the story of the childhood sexual abuse of Justin Zapp by a priest. As an adult, Father Justin Zapp is confronted with the psychological scars of the experience when the perpetrator is killed in an automobile accident. He enters psychotherapy for several years, during which news of other abusing priests surfaces. Facing his personal demons and the Catholic Church’s demons, leads to confrontations with authorities all the way to the papacy, with unexpected results.
Jim Wayne, a practicing psychotherapist, received his MFA in fiction at Spalding University. He lives with his wife Debbie in Louisville, Kentucky in a district he represents in the Kentucky House of Representatives.
