The Speed Cinema proudly presents "Chimes at Midnight."
Directed by Orson Welles.

In the last few months celebrating Orson Welles’ centenary, the crowning achievement of the director’s later career has been brought back to the screen after being unavailable for decades. Displaying lumbering grace, Welles plays Shakespeare’s biting rascal Sir John Falstaff as a robustly funny, but tragic, antihero.

This brilliantly-crafted adaptation is the culmination of Welles’ lifelong passion for the Bard, which integrates elements from both Henry IV plays as well as Richard II, Henry V, and The Merry Wives of Windsor. “If I wanted to get into heaven on the basis of one movie, that’s the one I would offer up. . . .I succeeded more completely, in my view, with that than with anything else,” said Welles. 1966, Spain, B/W, DCP, 115 minutes.
