An exhibition of portraits which attempts to reveal the relationships between people that made the Whitworth Art Gallery possible.
It includes a range of work, from Francis Bacon’s wonderful portrait of Lucian Freud to a self- portrait of Adolf Wölfli made in a mental asylum near Berne.
Also included is Sir Stanley Spencer’s drawing of Margaret Pilkington, honorary director of the Whitworth for over 20 years and the first female director of a major UK gallery.
