Boutique bowling joint with an old-school Americana vibe and a fine selection of food and drink
There was a time when going bowling meant that you went to an industrial entertainment park, waded through hundreds of slot machines and pool tables, squeezed your feet into some shoes that were both too small and that had just been sprayed with some stinking air freshener, and then found your lane out of the dozens lined up next to each other.
Bowling is not like that anymore.
Situated at Great Northern, All Star Lanes offer a much more modern experience, lifting the game out of the sticky carpet realm and elevating it into a full night out complete with fancy cocktails, classy food and beautifully lit lanes.
A cool reception area greets you and you're guided to your table if you're dining and drinking or straight to your lane via the shoe exchange. Once there you can relax, bowl, eat, drink, have fun and not feel like you need a good wash down once you've left. In fact, there's really no reason to leave at all once the bowling is over, such is the selection of drinks on offer.
The venue also boasts a lovely private room which can be hired for special occasions, including weddings. It has its own bar, you can organise private catering and there are two lanes included so that your guests can get competitive.

If you’ve been to the Brick Lane venue, you’ll be impressed at how much bigger and shinier the new Manchester Deansgate venue is. The circular bar is perfect for waiting for your friends and taking in the tasteful retro vibes which are somewhat akin to a set from Mad Men.
A few of us came here for the 'Boozy Bowling' deal where you get 2 hours of unlimited bowling, prosecco/beer and bar snacks. It was £35pp and good value considering how much of those things we managed to fit in!
I always thought I became better at bowling after a few drinks but this really didn't confirm this! I started off alright, mostly getting spares but by the third game I had completely lost my competitive edge and started to bowl backwards through my legs. 2 hours straight of ‘bottomless prosecco bowling’ can really bring out some new techniques!
The food was a good selection of American favourites served throughout; pulled pork sliders and 'slaw, mini corndogs, deep fried macaroni bites and other yummy distractions. We had a super waitress who must have waited until our backs were turned to top up our drinks so there was a real limitless feel to the day. Come here to be bowled over. (...sorry!)
