When Manchester institution Cafe Istanbul reached a milestone of 35 years, it celebrated the occasion by branching out and launching a new jazz club, La Gitane, in its basement.
Also the first jazz club to open in Manchester since the late 90s, the pressure’s always going to be on for La Gitane – though with Matt and Phred’s co-founder Matt Nickson at the helm for music programming, things already stand in good stead.
Channeling the sumptuous and sensual qualities of jazz itself, inside you can expect elegant black lounge chairs, candelabras and framed black and white head shots of jazz greats from across the decades, along with a bar serving up champers, wines, cocktails and craft beers.
Open Thursday through to Saturday from 9pm ‘til late, the club operates a smart dress policy and entrance is free.
